Personality:
Maria gives an impression of rudeness/disrespect towards others as she ignores them if they're talking to her while she reads. In truth, the clamperl's just socially awkward; unsure of how to communicate with others, so she clams up within her books. Her voice is a quiet one, and she's often told to speak up, especially of those hard of hearing. She also doesn't like attention, and tries to stay at the sides of the room at all times (if possible). If the time is taken to get to know her, Maria's kindheartedness shines though, along with her determination and passion. Once she's decided something, she puts in her all, and won't give up until it's all over. If you bring up something she loves, she'll turn into a jabber-jaw and fangirl over it - but the moment you diss something she likes she won't hesitate to get on your case.

History:
When Maria was born, her parents were still in high school. Seeing as all her other friends had done 'it' before and none of them got pregnant, her mother thought to herself it would be the same for her. When she discovered that she was pregnant, it sent her in a panic. She didn't have the money or the supplies to raise another living creature, as she herself was still a child. She also didn't want the child's' father involved, since it was a one night stand and she didn't think he would care. Going to her own parents, they had a long talk and decided it was best if they found a couple that would take the baby in as their own.

And what a couple they found. Movie star Danica Brown and her wife Odette (a makeup artist) had been trying to adopt a child for months with no luck. The tides seemed to turn in their favor after the duo's agency connected them with Maria's mother. The three agreed for a closed adoption, and a few days after the clamperl was born, she was flown to her new home in Canalave City.

As she grew, Maria's mothers made sure she had the best of the best. From the newest gadget to the latest fashion, she got it all (even if she didn't ask for it). As for schooling, they hired a home tutor, believing enrolling her in a real school would hinder her learning, or the other students would get her into trouble. When she had free time , it was spent on movie sets or in a dressing room. They even had the clamperl start trying out for movie rolls, believing she would be interested in following at least one of the woman's careers.

In truth, she cared about acting as much as she liked bitter poffins. Which was not at all. Maria had no interest in becoming a movie star, and only went to tryouts because her mothers made her. She wasn't interested in anything either of her parents did for that matter, and everything they had at home became pretty boring. Fashion, technology, acting, makeup; none of these things had ever peeked her curiosity. It wasn't until her tutor gave her a new assignment that Maria found her muse; reading.

Action, adventure, romance, drama, mysterious and mystical elements; they were all there within the pages and Maria was captivated. The stories told were nothing like her normal life, and she loved it. Would Clary be able to help her mother? Can Hazel overcome her cancer? These were the thoughts flowing through her mind as she turned each page, and the more she read, the less she payed attention to those around her, putting all of her attention with books.

For a while, Danica and Odette didn't think anything of it. Reading was a healthy thing, and Maria was never interested in anything like this before. It was when she started to ignore them that they realized there was a problem. Her mothers tried to pry her away from her reading fantasies by taking her shopping, going to a movie, and a day trip to the spa, but the girl wasn't very involved, and the moment they got home she went to her room to read. They knew this couldn't go on, and needed a way to get Maria to be at least a little social. A friend said to just send her to a private school; there'd be group projects she'd have to join, and maybe she'd make some friends. The duo came to like that idea, and agreed that it'd be best to send her off to school.

Where to send her was the big question. After speaking to some co-workers and doing some research, the two discovered StMortiel. A school where guidance would be given to those in need(and the words highest quality education really got the school onto their good side) sounded like a great place for their daughter. They sent in an application, and told Maria it would be a good experience for her to be with others her own age. Now they wait to see if she would get in..
